Pig’n’aif is a music project working with the Rising Records independent label based in Sheffield (UK). It is the working name for a collection of projects and bands put together and performed with over the years, by Pete Bangert and friends. Pig’n’aif  is pronounced as Pig-an-Ayf in a typical Yorkshire accent and is an old- fashioned, surreptitious and non-blasphemous curse , (Please feel free to use it - we do often...). The name, originally born out of frustration, reflects the fact that it has often been a pig (and an ’aif) to bring these projects to fruition, or indeed to get the musicians together to play the material, but it also reflects a lighter side to things.

After The Fire - The Music of Phoenix Rising

The final album from the NWOBHM band Phoenix Rising has been released After Ther Fire - The Music of Phoenix Rising. This is particularly relevant here because the album was recorded and finalised by the Pig’n’aif project team on behalf of the Rising Records label.

As Pete said, “it had to be done, that now puts the Phoenix Rising project to bed. Thanks for the ride and so much fun. Now back to Pig’n’aif full time.”

It has to be said, the album sounds great and is very well received. Check it out and let us know what you think.

Here’s the most recent video release of a guitar based track from the ‘The Jester.... Thinks... album, ‘Down ‘n’ Out’  It has the voice of Mick Shedd on lead vocal and Pete Bangert on guitars, guitar synth, keyboards and backing vocal.
The track asks the question “if you had your chance, what would you say to your younger self?”. It could alter your whole future.
Pig'n'aif Bandcamp siteThe track and the album are, of course, available for download from the Pig’n’aif BandCamp site, or your choice of many digital sites.
The video is on the Pig’n’aif section of the Rising Records channel on YouTube.

This video release is another guitar based track from the ‘The Jester.... Thinks... album, ‘Stolen Moments’  It features the ever expressive voice of Mick Shedd on lead vocal and Pete Bangert on guitars, guitar synth, keyboards and backing vocal. The track is taken from the ‘Stormbringer Trilogy’ of Lady Of The Song, Stormbringer and Stolen Moments written by Pete.

Check it out on Bandcamp or your favourite digital download site.

Here’s a video of one of our favourite tracks from the ‘Pig’n’aif Blue’  jam band album,  ‘Rollin’ Stone’. It’s a cracking blues/rock version even though we say it ourselves and it took on a life of its own as we made it. It’s a fun accompaniment to an excellent track. The track and the album are available for download from your choice of many digital sites. The video is of course available in the Pig’n’aif section of the Rising Records channel on YouTube.

Work on the ’Electronicaliis’ album is going well, despite the challenges we have aqll experienced recently. It’s a Prog-Electronica album, heavily synth based  featuring guitar synth work as well as keyboards and the normal guitar line-up. A slight departure from our normal style, but fully consistent with the Pig’n’aif philosophy. This track, ‘My Amie’ is a taster from the album, featuring the fanciful flight of the Pig’n’aif Logo Ship back home. The release of ‘My Amie’ has generated a lot of interest.

This is the video of ‘Cycles’ taken from the ‘Handover’ album. This track was the first complete song ever written by Pete and was gigged extensively in various band line-ups around the country bu never recorded. It was included on the ‘Handover’ album for that very reason - a handover from the past.
This lovely, gentle ballad benefits greatly from the excellent vocal interpretation given by Mel Day, a superb vocalist who Pete has worked with many times over the years. Mel’s voice features heavily on the ‘Pig’n’aif Blue’ album, as well as tracks on many other Pig’n’aif albums

Musicalis Grumpiosa - click for more infoWe are now back to work full time on the ‘Musicalis Grumpiosa’ album, having discharged our other outstanding commitments. We’re pleased to say it is progressing well and will be the next Pig’n’aif album release. It is now definitely getting the attention it deserves, watch this space for updates.

The album material crosses many genre boundaries, including Progressive Rock, Blues, Rock and Jazz. ’Musicalis Grumpiosa’ is made up of humorous and pointed songs aimed firmly at the middle aged condition. This is another slight shift in the focus of the demographic, just for a change, but after all the young do not have all of the fun or the challenges in life (do they?). Our previous albums ‘Pig’n’aif Blue-ish’ and ’Pig’n’aif Blue’ continue to do well worldwide and we are receiving excellent feedback. They are composed of classic blues and rock numbers from the Jam-band line-up’s set, treated with a somewhat radical Pig’n’aif twist. You will not have heard treatments like these on some of these numbers elsewhere. Please continue to download them and let us know what you think

Also don’t forget to check out our previous project release,  the prog-rock album
‘The Jester... Thinks...’. It has varied tracks from the medievally influenced title track
‘The Jester’, through the blues rock ‘Gotta Be Jokin’ ‘ to the out-and-out prog rock suite of ‘Genus Holbytla’. The album deals with a number of the typical emotions we all face at sometime or other in our complex lives and is definitely a retrospective look through Pete’s life as the composer. The album also features vocals from the inimitable Mick Shedd.
