This is the Pig’n’aif website.

Pignaif-logoPig’n’aif is a music project working in conjunction with the Rising Records independent record label based in Sheffield (UK). The band name is pronounced - in a typical Yorkshire accent - as Pig’an’Ayf. (Please feel free to use it as a surreptitious curse - we do...).
Pig’n’aif is the working name for a collection of projects and bands put together and performed with over the years, by Pete Bangert. The name was originally born out of frustration and reflects the fact that it has often been a pig (and an ’aif) to bring these projects to fruition, or indeed to get the musicians together to play the material, but it also reflects a lighter side to things.

Well we’ve gone and done it again. We have completed and
released another album for your edification and delectation.

Pig’n’aif Blue was released into the assembled populace and even though we say it ourselves - we are very proud of it. It would make a handsome addition to anyone’s album collection. The album is exclusively blues rock standards taken from the Pig’n’aif jam-band set, with arrangements and treatments of the material in the band’s own style. In other words it does not copy the stylings of other artists who have performed them - as there have been so many over the years - although it may well nod in their general directions.
It has received some excellent reviews from both local and national press.

We have now entered the glittering and extremely modern (for us anyway) world of the digital download. Our music is now available for download from most of the download sites world-wide including iTunes, Amazon, Napster, Spotify, emusic, PLAY.com, 7digital,
ex libris and many many more. Please feel free to indulge if you are not looking for a
hard-copy CD.

A scratch-band version of the project recently performed a few live gigs of the material from Pig’n’aif Blue along with other jam-oriented rock/blues/prog standards in a slightly self-indulgent, but hopefully entertaining, way. That line-up is no longer gigging live but was an enjoyable diversion whilst it was in evidence. New line-ups of the project are now on the cards for both the blues/rock and prog sets.

You can find more info about past members of the various project line-ups on the Biogs’n’pics pages and see some recent live pics of the band on the Background page.

A previous project release was a prog-rock album called ‘The Jester... Thinks...’. It has varied tracks from the medievally influenced title track ‘The Jester’, through the blues rock ‘Gotta Be Jokin’ ‘ to the
out-and-out prog rock suite of ‘Genus Holbytla’. The album deals with a number of the typical emotions we all face at sometime or other in our complex lives and is definitely a retrospective look through Pete’s life as the composer.

Be quick there aren’t that many left...

Meanwhile Pete, Jack and Chris (previously of Phoenix Rising) and Mel (amongst others including Mick Shedd) are continuing to work in the studio on producing new original material for future albums. Once again, the influences are wide and varied with both new and legacy material being brought forward. As always it will include some tongue-in-cheek stuff with an undercurrent of pure bile ... more later.

You will be able to keep up with the live band’s Gig Diary as well as finding contact details for the band on the Gigs’n’Contacts page of this site. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us if you would like any more information about the band, upcoming projects, media or our music. We are always happy to talk to you.
